A Bench for Healing
In memory of Caroline Flack, a suicide prevention bench has been unveiled in north London by her mother, Christine, with a heartfelt message to encourage those struggling with their mental health. The bench, which was revealed last September, features a QR code that links to Caroline's personal story and offers vital resources for those in need of support.
Caroline, a beloved TV presenter, tragically passed away in February 2020 at the age of 40. Known for her roles on Love Island, The X Factor, and Strictly Come Dancing, she left an indelible mark on both television and the hearts of her fans.
Christine, speaking to The Mirror, said: “At the end, Carrie didn’t think there was anything to live for, she felt the world had turned against her. I hope people who read her story will see her life was wasted and may think twice about ending theirs. That’s how I want Carrie to be remembered, for inspiring people to live.”
The bench serves as a lasting tribute to Caroline’s kindness and compassion, offering a space where anyone can sit, reflect, and find solace. Christine hopes it becomes a sanctuary for those facing struggles of their own, providing a glimmer of hope in dark times.
“It’s a place where people can pause, even for just five minutes, to think and find some peace,” Christine explained. “In a world filled with so many negatives, I believe the bench gives people a moment to breathe and reconsider, just as Caroline would have wanted.”
While Caroline’s family continues to mourn their irreplaceable loss, they take comfort in the knowledge that her memory and her spirit of support and empathy live on. "She was funny, kind, and loved by everyone, especially her nieces and nephews," Christine shared. "That’s the Caroline I want the world to remember—her joy, her laughter, and her heart."
The bench is part of the charity Legend On The Bench, a cause founded after the tragic death of Jay Hazard, whose family now continues to support others through similar tragedies. Christine Flack hopes the installation will serve as a beacon of hope for those who feel alone in their struggles.
