Ticketmaster's New Scandal
Liam Gallagher has shrugged off the latest Ticketmaster debacle, telling fans, “you’ve gotta roll with it,” after many were left in the lurch with cancelled tickets for the long-awaited Oasis reunion tour.
Numerous fans were left devastated when Ticketmaster sent out emails stating their tickets for the iconic rock band’s comeback shows were void. For many, these tickets had been hard-won after hours in virtual queues, with some paying hundreds or even thousands of pounds for the rare chance to see Liam and Noel Gallagher share the stage again a moment last witnessed back in 2009.
The saga continues months after fans endured long waits to secure their tickets, only to have their dreams crushed by the ticket-selling giant's error. Liam Gallagher, known for his straightforward style, gave a no-nonsense response to the controversy when asked for his thoughts on social media. Writing on 10 February, he stated: “I don’t make the rules [we’re] trying to do the right thing it is what it is I’m the singer get [off] my case.”
As Ticketmaster struggles with the backlash, the company has urged anyone affected to consult its “Oasis Refunds FAQ” page. A spokesperson added, “For ticket purchases who believe they have had tickets refunded in error, refer to the email sent by the relevant agent when informed.”
Meanwhile, Ticketmaster is still under scrutiny after being accused of using the controversial “dynamic pricing” model when the Oasis tickets went on sale. Despite a grilling from MPs last week, the company’s UK managing director Andrew Parsons denied the accusations, insisting that ticket prices were set based on an agreement with the band.
Parsons was also quizzed about whether Ticketmaster was “ripping off fans” in light of the scandal, to which he firmly responded, “I don’t believe so, no.”
Black Sabbath fans slammed Ticketmaster over high prices and long queues for Ozzy Osbourne’s 5 July farewell concert at Villa Park. One fan called £420 nosebleed tickets “insane.” Osbourne confirmed all proceeds will go to charity, stating, “Birmingham is the true home of metal. Birmingham Forever.”
The Oasis reunion tour will kick off just one day before Osbourne’s gig on 4 July at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium.
