Film Club Sparks Love
The BBC has unveiled its latest venture, Film Club, a six-part romantic comedy series featuring an impressive ensemble cast led by Suranne Jones. The celebrated actress will star alongside Adam Long (Happy Valley), Nabhaan Rizwan (Kaos), and Liv Hill (Three Girls).
This project marks the screenwriting debut of Sex Education star Aimee Lou Wood and House of the Dragon actor Ralph Davis. Set to charm audiences with its blend of humor and heartfelt drama, Film Club explores the intricacies of love, friendship, and family dynamics, challenging viewers to ponder the eternal question: should we follow our hearts or our heads?
At the story’s heart is Evie (played by Wood), a woman grappling with a self-imposed isolation after a personal crisis. For six months, her garage-based weekly film club, co-hosted by her best friend Noa (Rizwan), has been her sanctuary. However, when Noa lands a dream job far away, their cherished tradition is thrown into jeopardy, forcing them to confront their feelings for one another.
Suranne Jones steps into the role of Evie’s unconventional mother, Suz, while Long portrays Evie’s boyfriend Josh. Hill plays Evie’s sister, Izzie, and Davis himself takes on the part of Dominic, a new member of the Film Club.
Sharing her enthusiasm for the project, Wood expressed:
"I'm overjoyed that our cherished TV series Film Club, a story Ralph and I have been crafting for the last ten years, is finally entering production this week. Collaborating with Nabhaan and Suranne, two incredibly talented actors I've long admired, is truly a privilege."
With its unique blend of comedy, heartfelt storytelling, and a stellar cast, Film Club promises to deliver a compelling and relatable take on navigating relationships and rediscovering oneself. Filming begins this week, with anticipation already high for its release.
