Daniel Kaluuya Honored with Statue in London's Iconic Leicester Square

Get Out Star Immortalized

Daniel Kaluuya is poised to receive a statue in central London, a tribute to his outstanding performance in the acclaimed psychological thriller Get Out (2017). This honor not only recognizes his remarkable talent but also highlights his significant influence in the film industry.

At the young age of 35, the London native has garnered international acclaim for his role in Jordan Peele’s groundbreaking directorial debut, celebrated for its insightful examination of racial dynamics in America. Kaluuya's exceptional portrayal earned him a Best Actor nomination at the 2017 Academy Awards, solidifying Get Out as a contemporary cinematic masterpiece that resonates with audiences around the globe.

The statue was selected through a public poll of 5,000 film enthusiasts in the UK, where Kaluuya secured 20% of the votes, earning him this prestigious honor in Leicester Square. His statue will be part of the renowned "Scenes in the Square" exhibit, joining a stellar lineup of iconic characters such as Harry Potter, Wonder Woman, and Batman.

Scheduled for unveiling in October, the statue will commemorate the memorable “Sunken Place” scene from Get Out, in which Kaluuya's character falls into a hypnotic state. According to Variety, this tribute not only honors Kaluuya’s cinematic achievements but also showcases British talent on an international platform.

Mark Williams, deputy CEO of the Heart of London Business Alliance, expressed enthusiasm about the inclusion, stating: “We are excited to showcase Get Out in our 'Scenes in the Square' trail, highlighting the brilliance of modern cinema and exceptional British talent.”

Since its inception in 2020, the "Scenes in the Square" installation has transformed Leicester Square into a haven for film lovers, featuring statues of legendary characters from the 1920s to the present day. With each new addition, the trail continues to grow, attracting crowds eager to capture photos with their favorite cinematic icons.
