Heart Scare at 65
Jeremy Clarkson has revealed he was on the brink of death before undergoing emergency heart surgery — a stark wake-up call that forced the 65-year-old TV presenter to rethink his lifestyle.
Doctors discovered that two of Clarkson's coronary arteries were dangerously blocked, leading to the swift fitting of stents to restore blood flow. The presenter was rushed to John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford after epxeriencing telltale symptoms: clamminess, chest tightness, and tingling in his left arm.
The health scare followed a trip to the Seychelles, where Clarkson said he felt his body beginning to fail him. "When I finally reached the beach my lungs were full of water and I realised I can't do it anymore," he admitted. That failed dive would mark the beginning of a downward spiral culminating in a two-hour surgery that may have saved his life.
Back home in Oxfordshire, the alarming symptoms escalated. Initial medical checks didn’t show a heart attack, but further investigation revealed a grim reality: one artery was entirely blocked and another was close behind.
Now recovering, Clarkson reflects on aging with his usual dry wit, but there's a sober edge to his tone. He’s swapped indulgence for moderation — cutting down on alcohol, embracing pickleball, and adopting a so-called "mono diet" built around single-ingredient foods. Processed supermarket meals are out; steak and eggs are in.
He also credits the weight-loss drug Mounjaro with helping control his appetite, after an unsuccessful stint on Ozempic. Even his time on set filming Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? has become a platform for healthy humor: Clarkson joked about his phone shaming him for eating fewer sausages and taking fewer steps.
From tropical overindulgence to farmyard labor, Clarkson’s path to the operating table was anything but conventional. But the message is clear — heart health doesn’t discriminate, even for those who seem larger than life.
