Meet the Moggs
Jacob-Rees Mogg, the enigmatic ex-MP, is stepping into the limelight in a new way. He is the focus of a five-part documentary series, “The Mogg Chronicles”, set to make its debut on Discovery+. This series promises an unprecedented peek into the private life of Mogg, his wife Helena, their brood of six children, and their nanny.
The backdrop for the series is their historic 17th-century residence, a site that was defaced in 2018 with the derogatory phrase “posh scum” scrawled across the windows. The series traces the trajectory of Mogg’s political career, culminating in his recent electoral defeat at the hands of Labour’s West of England mayor, Dan Norris. Norris secured a victory with 20,739 votes, surpassing Mogg’s 15,420 in an election that saw a 69.38% turnout.
The production crew, who commenced filming Mogg before the General Election was announced by Rishi Sunak, were reportedly surprised by his affable and warm demeanor. Mogg himself acknowledged, “It was a golden opportunity for the show and provided a genuine glimpse into the family dynamics of working MPs.”
The series also spotlights Mogg’s son Peter, who is keen to carve out his own niche in the television industry. The documentary came to light when Mogg was spotted on the campaign trail, accompanied by a camera crew. His unconventional canvassing methods, which once included his nanny, have previously been the subject of scrutiny. The series captures these moments, offering viewers an inside look at the campaign trail in Longwell Green, on the outskirts of Bristol.
