David Tennant Takes Center Stage
Renowned for his performances in “Broadchurch” and “Good Omens,” David Tennant, the celebrated actor, is poised to preside over the 2024 EE Bafta Film Awards. This prestigious event, a tribute to cinematic excellence, is scheduled for February 18 at the Royal Festival Hall in London, with broadcasts on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
Recently reprising his role in “Doctor Who” for the 60th-anniversary special, Tennant expressed his excitement about honoring the film industry’s finest works and the creative minds behind them. His compelling portrayal of the 14th Time Lord, alongside Catherine Tate’s return as Donna Noble, has enthralled viewers.
Bafta’s Chief Executive, Jane Millichip, conveyed her delight about Tennant’s role as the host. "David Tennant’s charisma, warmth, and playful humor promise to make the 2024 EE Bafta Film Awards a must-see event for our attendees and the vast television audience,” she remarked.
Millichip also emphasized, “The EE Bafta Film Awards are a platform to celebrate extraordinary films and the gifted individuals who create them. With the votes of over 7500 Bafta members, we look forward to revealing their selected longlists, encouraging audiences to explore the cinematic universe and participate in discussions about potential Bafta winners.”
Bafta plans to announce the longlists for 24 categories, including Best Film and Director, at midday on Friday. In addition, actors Naomi Ackie and Kingsley Ben-Adir will broadcast the Bafta nominations live on Thursday, January 18, at midday. The EE Rising Star Award nominees, selected by the UK public, will be disclosed on Wednesday, January 10, at the Savoy.
Tennant joins the ranks of past hosts such as Richard E Grant, Alison Hammond, and Australian actress-comedian Rebel Wilson. Beyond his memorable roles in films like “Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire” (2005) and “Mary Queen Of Scots” (2018), Tennant has received Best Actor accolades from Bafta Cymru and Bafta Scotland for “Doctor Who: Doomsday” and “The Escape Artist,” respectively. Currently mesmerizing audiences in “Macbeth” at the Donmar Warehouse, Tennant’s illustrious career is adorned with numerous awards.
