The announcement comes shortly after a period of mourning, with a funeral for Salmond held on October 29 in Strichen, Aberdeenshire. Friends, family, and colleagues gathered to honor his memory, including notable figures such as former Speaker of the House of Commons John Bercow, Alba Party Chair Tasmina Ahmed-Sheikh, and close friend Kenny MacAskill, who has since assumed the role of interim leader of the Alba Party.
