Love, Loss, and Liberation
Poppy Delevingne, British model and sister of Cara Delevingne, opened up about the "stigma" that delayed her decision to end her marriage to businessman James Cook. The 38-year-old socialite, who married Cook in a grand 2014 ceremony at St. Paul's Church in Kensington, had 17 bridesmaids, including Geri Halliwell and Trinny Woodall.
After eight years of marriage, Delevingne and Cook have split. Delevingne is now linked to billionaire Archie Keswick, previously associated with Sienna Miller. Despite the breakup, Delevingne says she and Cook still have a positive relationship, sharing on the "Origins With Cush Jumbo" podcast, "There’s a lot of love and respect, but it just no longer worked for us."
Reflecting on the complexities of their relationship, Delevingne revealed that the pressure of societal expectations around divorce delayed her decision. "I think that's why it should have probably ended earlier than it did. One of the reasons it didn’t is because of that stigma," she explained, highlighting the difficult emotions women face, especially those in their late thirties who haven't had children.
The London-born model also discussed her newfound sense of independence after the split, expressing that every decision is now her own. She described the separation as a liberating experience, saying, "I felt sort of 20 all over again," underscoring her rejuvenated sense of self.
Poppy Delevingne is no stranger to the spotlight, coming from one of London's most well-connected families. Her grandfather, Sir Jocelyn Stevens, was known for his friendship with Princess Margaret, while her great aunt, Doris Delevingne, had a close bond with Winston Churchill. In May, the Delevingne family’s Grade II-listed Belgravia mansion was listed for sale at a staggering £23.5 million.
Despite her family ties and high society connections, Delevingne expressed frustration over being labeled a "socialite," a term she believes diminishes her personal achievements. “What even is that? What is a socialite?” she asked, challenging the superficial perceptions attached to her name.
In July, Delevingne made headlines again as she publicly stepped out with her new partner, Archie Keswick. The Eton-educated businessman, known for his prowess on the tennis court, is deeply connected to ventures in the Far East, including the prestigious Mandarin Oriental hotel group.
