Robert J. Costello specializes in commercial and criminal litigation, municipal investigations, and Administrative Law. Mr. Costello has handled a myriad of Criminal and Civil cases in City, State, and Federal courts as well as representing clients in front of the NYC Department of Investigation and various City Agencies.
Robert was most recently a Partner at Levy Tolman & Costello, LLP. Mr. Costello is the former Deputy Chief of the Criminal Division for the US Attorney’s Office in the Southern District of New York. Mr. Costello has represented such New York luminaries as George Steinbrenner, Leona Helmsley, Gene Michael, the General Manager of the Yankees and Michele Sindona, known as the “Vatican Banker.” Mr. Costello’s cases have been covered in “Steinbrenner” by Bill Madden, “Lords of the Realm” by John Helyar, “Power on Earth” by Nick Tosches, and “Money Players” by Armen Keteyian, Harvey Araton and Martin F. Dardis.
In addition, Mr. Costello has litigated investigation matters with Major League Baseball, the National Basketball Association and has successfully represented more than one hundred former federal agents then working as drug program agents for the National Football League in an employment dispute with the League. Mr. Costello is a member of the American Bar Association, the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, and the Federal Bar Council.
