Anita Indira Anand is a Canadian lawyer, academic, and politician, who has served as the Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry since 2025. She has represented the riding of Oakville in the House of Commons since the 2019 federal election, sitting as a member of the Liberal Party.
From 2019 to 2021, she was minister of public services and procurement overseeing Canada's procurement of vaccines and personal protective equipment during the COVID-19 pandemic. From 2021 to 2023, she was minister of national defence, playing a key role in Canada's efforts to provide military aid to Ukraine during the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine. From 2024 to 2025, Anand served as the Minister of Transport.
She is the first Hindu woman to be elected as a member of Parliament and the first Hindu to become a cabinet minister in Canada.
