Freaky Friday Gets Freakier
The upcoming sequel to the iconic Freaky Friday is ramping up the mayhem, offering fans an even more chaotic ride than before. The newly dropped trailer for Freakier Friday unveils a wild four-way body swap within a single family, pushing the boundaries of the original body-swapping concept.
In this star-studded return, Oscar winner Jamie Lee Curtis and beloved actress Lindsay Lohan reprise their roles as the mother-daughter duo, Tess and Anna Coleman, from the 2003 classic. But this time, the misadventure goes a step further—Anna’s daughter, Harper (played by Julia Butters), and her soon-to-be stepdaughter, Lily (portrayed by Sophia Hammons), also find themselves swapped into each other's bodies.
The trailer promises to bring back the mystical elements that defined the original film, featuring a fortune teller (Vanessa Bayer from Saturday Night Live) who cryptically tells Tess and Anna, “You learned a lesson, a lesson that might serve you again.” From there, the characters are plunged into a whirlwind of identity confusion, leading to a series of hilarious, and often heartwarming, moments.
Fans will also enjoy nostalgic nods as Chad Michael Murray returns as Anna's former love interest, Jake, and Mark Harmon reprises his role from the original movie. New faces include Manny Jacinto, known for his roles in The Good Place and The Acolyte, as Lily’s father, Eric Davies.
Originally based on Mary Rodgers’ 1972 novel, Freaky Friday has had several adaptations over the years, including the 1976 version with Jodie Foster. The 2003 edition, in which Lindsay Lohan rose to teen superstardom alongside other hits like Mean Girls and Herbie Fully Loaded, remains a fan favorite.
After taking a break from the spotlight, Lohan has been making a steady return to Hollywood with roles in Netflix's Falling for Christmas and Irish Wish. Meanwhile, Curtis, fresh off her Academy Award win for Everything Everywhere All At Once, continues to shine in a variety of genres.
Freakier Friday is officially set to hit theaters on August 8, 2025, promising a fresh spin on the timeless body swap comedy.
