On Monday, GOP Representative Tim Burchett made headlines by accusing Vice President Kamala Harris of being selected for her position solely based on her race. Burchett asserted that President Joe Biden deliberately overlooked white female candidates in the selection process, referring to Harris as a "diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) hire." The controversial comments have sparked significant debate and media coverage.

Later, former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy criticized racially-based attacks on Harris, emphasizing that while he disagrees with DEI, she remains the vice president and a former senator. Current House Speaker Mike Johnson distanced himself from such attacks, emphasizing that the election should focus on policies, not personalities.

Despite controversy, a majority of Americans still support DEI programs, according to an Ipsos/Washington Post poll. Meanwhile, the Trumpist faction continues to criticize DEI initiatives. Sen. JD Vance introduced the “Dismantle DEI Act” to eliminate federal DEI programs, calling the DEI agenda destructive. Prominent Trump supporters, including Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene and former adviser Sebastian Gorka, have also accused Harris of being selected based on gender and skin color.

In response to former President Trump’s criticism, Doug Emhoff dismissed it, asking, “That’s all he’s got?” Harris’s campaign has raised $126 million since Biden endorsed her as the Democrats’ presidential candidate.
