Laureates of the film awards
The names of the winners of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) film awards will be announced on Sunday in London. The 76th edition will take place at the Royal Festival Hall in the Southbank Centre on the south bank of the River Thames, with a total of 45 films up for grabs in 25 categories.
The anti-war drama Im Westen nichts Neues, 2022 by German director Edward Berger, is the leader in the number of nominations for the award. The film is up for grabs in 14 categories.
The two-hour film, based on the anti-war novel of the same name by Erich Maria Remarque, is nominated in the following categories:
"Best Film;
"Best non-English language film";
"Best director";
"Best adapted screenplay";
"Best Supporting Actor";
"Best Casting;
"Best music for film";
"Best camerawork;
"Best editing.
The Bronze Mask can also be awarded for Production Designer, Costume Design, Make-up and Hair Styles, Sound, Visual Effects.
But before that, the only non-English language film to win so many nominations was Wo hu cang long, 2000. In 2001, the Taiwanese director Ang Lee won four Bronze Masks, followed by an equal number of Oscars.
Irish film The Banshees of Inisherin, 2022 by Martin McDonagh and Everything Everywhere All at Once, 2021 by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert share second place in the number of nominations. They are up for grabs in 10 categories each, including such prestigious ones as Best Film, Best Director and Best Original Screenplay.
Elvis, 2022 was directed by Baz Luhrmann and received nine nominations, while Tar, 2022 by Todd Field received five. Between these five films there will be a battle for Best Picture.
