Bridget’s Big Comeback
Renee Zellweger and Hugh Grant shared a heartwarming and humorous reunion on the red carpet at the UK premiere of Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, bringing a wave of nostalgia to fans of the beloved rom-com franchise. The event, held at Leicester Square on Wednesday (29 January), marked Zellweger’s return as Bridget Jones, nearly a decade after the last installment.
In this new chapter, Bridget faces life as a widow following the tragic loss of her husband, Mark Darcy (Colin Firth), who died while on a humanitarian mission in Sudan. As she navigates her grief, she also ventures back into the unpredictable world of dating, experimenting with apps and ultimately finding an unexpected connection with a younger man, Roxter (Leo Woodall).
The premiere was filled with lighthearted moments, including one where Zellweger playfully dusted off Grant’s suit, much to the amusement of onlookers. Grant, reprising his role as Bridget’s charming but roguish former flame, Daniel Cleaver, maintained his signature deadpan expression, making the moment all the more amusing.
Speaking about their reunion, Grant quipped, “She hasn’t changed a bit—still bossing me around.”
Their effortless chemistry and banter on the red carpet reminded fans why Bridget’s tangled love life has remained such an enduring favorite. With a mix of humor, heartache, and romance, the latest film promises to capture the essence of what made the Bridget Jones series so beloved in the first place.
