Cllr Paul Graeme was born in Birmingham and once educated embarked on a career in Banking which took him to various branches ending his career at Margate Branch where he was a Manager.
He then went on to run a business setting up Limited Companies and was then able to move into property Management which is his occupation today.
In 1997 was appointed as a Magistrate and spent 20 years in East Kent. Spent 3 years as Deputy Chair of the East Kent Bench and was instrumental in setting up the Confiscation Panel within the East Kent Bench and retrieved in his last year £18 million by selling and realizing assets dishonestly acquired by criminals.
Was elected to Sandwich Town Council in 2007 and has spent 3 years as Deputy Mayor and 4 years as Mayor of Sandwich. In his last year he was Speaker of the Cinque Ports on behalf of Sandwich.
Paul looks forward to Sandwich prospering both financially and culturally. With the coming of the 149th Open Golf Tournament in 2020 it is his and the Council’s aspiration to improve our Tourism offer and place Sandwich firmly on the map in the UK and Internationally.
He has been married to Sue for 47 years and has a son and daughter in law who live in Manchester with their three grandchildren.
After 32 years living in Sandwich Paul is very much involved in the Community being involved with Age Concern, NSPCC, Sandwich United Charity Almshouses, Rotary and Freemasonry, Royal British Legion, Chamber of Commerce and St Cements Church and P22 and will continue to act in the best interests of the Sandwich Community as a whole.
Paul was awarded MBE in Her Majesty’s Honours list this year for services to the Magistracy and the Local Community.
