Boris Johnson flew in a Eurofighter Typhoon
The outgoing Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Boris Johnson, said he had flown in a British Air Force Typhoon fighter jet and even demonstrated some aerobatics.
In his speech the prime minister played on the subject of his resignation and the campaign to elect a new leader for the Conservative Party. With the party in power, the winner of this campaign will become prime minister of the UK, succeeding Johnson in both posts on 5 September.
"After three happy years in the cockpit, having done some pretty challenging, even admirable things, I will now organically hand over the helm to someone else," the politician said. Meanwhile, Sky News switched the prime minister's live speech to other news, promising to return to Johnson's speech if he said anything important.
The prime minister's office, for its part, circulated a video shot by Johnson on his mobile phone in the cockpit of a fighter jet during a flight last week. It shows the Prime Minister first taking selfies of himself in his helmet, then turning the phone around and it appears that the Typhoon and another fighter jet nearby are refuelling from the Voyager aircraft that Johnson himself and the royal family normally use.
It is worth noting that Channel 4 has commissioned the production of a documentary biographical series about UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who announced on 7 July that he had decided to step down as leader of the ruling Conservative Party in Britain. The announcement was made in a statement released by the channel on Monday.
