Biography

Robert Norman Davis, professionally known as Jasper Carrott, is an English comedian, writer, actor, singer and television presenter. He became one of Britain’s best-known comedy performers through a career spanning stand-up, television, film and entertainment presenting.

Carrott first built his reputation as a live comedian, developing a distinctive observational style that helped establish him as a popular figure on British television. His early screen work included An Audience with Jasper Carrott in 1978 and an appearance in The Secret Policeman's Other Ball in 1982.

During the 1980s, he expanded his television profile with Carrott's Lib from 1982 to 1983 and appeared in the 1987 adventure comedy Jane and the Lost City. He later became closely associated with Carrott's Commercial Breakdown, which ran from 1989 to 1996 and showcased unusual and humorous television advertisements from around the world.

From 1990 to 1995, Carrott fronted Canned Carrott, while his acting career gained further prominence through the BBC sitcom The Detectives, which aired from 1993 to 1997.

He continued working in television into the 2000s, appearing in All About Me from 2002 to 2004. He later reached another wide audience as the presenter of the game show Golden Balls, which ran from 2007 to 2009.

Across several decades, Jasper Carrott has remained a recognizable figure in British entertainment, combining comedy, acting and television presenting throughout his career.
