Steven Alexander James professionally known as Alex James, is an English musician best known as the bassist of the influential British rock band Blur.
James rose to international prominence in the early 1990s as a core member of Blur, one of the defining acts of the Britpop movement. With his melodic basslines and distinctive stage presence, he contributed to a string of critically acclaimed and commercially successful albums that helped shape modern British rock.
Alongside his work with Blur, James has explored a wide range of musical collaborations. He was a member of Fat Les, a side project that blended rock with football culture, and also played with bands including Me Me Me, WigWam, and Bad Lieutenant.
Beyond music, James has built a notable parallel career in food and farming, becoming a well-known public figure in British media.
