Melanie Clare Sophie Giedroyc is an English actress, comedian and television presenter.
With Sue Perkins, she has co-hosted series including Light Lunch for Channel 4, The Great British Bake Off for the BBC and chat show Mel and Sue for ITV. Since 2015, she has held a number of commentating roles for the Eurovision Song Contest. In early 2017, Giedroyc co-presented the BBC show Let It Shine.
She first gained recognition alongside Perkins in the mid-1990s when they co-hosted Light Lunch and Late Lunch on Channel 4, which quickly made them one of the most popular female comedy duos on British television. Their partnership became even more iconic years later when they fronted The Great British Bake Off on the BBC from 2010 to 2016. Their warm, witty presenting style helped turn the show into a massive cultural hit.
After leaving Bake Off, Giedroyc and Perkins hosted Mel and Sue, a daytime chat show on ITV, continuing their trademark mix of humor and charm. Beyond her work with Perkins, Giedroyc has built a strong solo career. She has hosted and appeared on a wide range of television and radio programs, from panel shows to quiz formats, and is also a seasoned stage performer.
Since 2015, Giedroyc has been part of the BBC’s coverage of the Eurovision Song Contest, where her humorous commentary has become a fan favorite. In 2017, she co-presented the BBC talent competition Let It Shine, which searched for performers to star in a Take That–themed musical.
Outside of television, Giedroyc has acted in theatre productions, taken part in charity specials, and established herself as one of the UK’s most versatile and reliable presenters. Her career continues to balance comedy, presenting, and live performance, all delivered with her signature warmth and wit.
