Voyage Turns Three
ABBA’s Benny Andersson and Anni-Frid Lyngstad made a rare joint appearance in London on Tuesday evening to celebrate the third anniversary of ABBA Voyage, the pioneering virtual concert that has redefined live music experiences.
The event took place at the purpose-built ABBA Arena in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, where fans were treated to a refreshed version of the show. Several classic hits — including The Name Of The Game, Super Trouper, Money, Money, Money, and Take A Chance On Me — were newly added to the digital setlist, adding fresh energy to the already ambitious production.
Lyngstad and Andersson were joined by fellow bandmates Agnetha Fältskog and Björn Ulvaeus, completing the original lineup of the legendary Swedish group. Known not only for their musical achievements but also their complex personal relationships, the group appeared united as they reflected on the success of the show and their legacy.
“When we first opened, we never imagined we’d still be in London three years later,” the band said. “We’re very grateful that so many of you have joined us.”
Since its debut in May 2022, ABBA Voyage has welcomed more than three million visitors. The groundbreaking production features digital “ABBA-tars” performing alongside a live 10-piece band and has reportedly contributed over £1 billion to the UK economy, according to consultancy Sound Diplomacy.
The concert was conceived and developed by the band themselves, directed by Baillie Walsh (Flashbacks of a Fool) and produced by Svana Gisla alongside Ludvig Andersson, Benny’s son.
The anniversary event attracted a number of notable attendees, including U2’s Adam Clayton, musicians Elvis Costello and Myleene Klass, singer Mahalia, author Richard Osman, comedian Rob Brydon, and actress Eleanor Tomlinson.
ABBA, who won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1974 with Waterloo, went on to dominate charts worldwide with hits like Dancing Queen, Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!, The Winner Takes It All, and Mamma Mia! Though the band officially split in 1982, they returned in 2021 with their first album in nearly four decades, Voyage, which topped the UK charts.
Their music also inspired the long-running Mamma Mia! musical and two Hollywood films, cementing their status as global cultural icons.
ABBA Voyage is currently booking through January 2026, with no signs of slowing down.
