Hogan’s Latest Scandal
Hulk Hogan is under fire for inflammatory remarks about Vice President Kamala Harris during an event in Ohio. While promoting his Real American Beer, Hogan joked about "body slamming" Harris and questioned her racial identity. A TMZ video from the Democratic National Convention also shows him referencing his wrestling moves and asking, "Do you want me to body slam Kamala Harris?"
Hogan then took things further by questioning Harris's heritage, saying: “Is Kamala a chameleon? Is she Indian?” This remark drew criticism for perpetuating racial stereotypes, especially when he followed it up with a trope commonly associated with Indigenous Americans.
Perhaps sensing the backlash coming, Hogan later seemed to blame alcohol for his comments. “I’m gonna get heat for that one, brother…that was not me, that was the beers talking,” he quipped.
Harris, the first Black and Asian-American vice president, is of mixed heritage, with her father hailing from Jamaica and her mother being of Indian descent.
This isn’t Hogan’s first controversy over racist remarks. In 2015, he was suspended from WWE for three years after a recording revealed him using racial slurs about his daughter’s love life. Hogan later apologized, saying, “Eight years ago, I used offensive language. There is no excuse for it, and I apologize.”
Hogan's latest remarks come shortly after he voiced his support for Donald Trump at the Republican National Convention. During his speech, Hogan declared, “Let Trump-a-mania run wild, brother,” while ripping off his shirt in his signature style.
Hogan's remarks fit a pattern of conservative attacks on Harris's racial identity. Last month, Trump falsely claimed Harris "just recently turned Black," which led to widespread outrage. He questioned her racial identity in a tense exchange with Black journalists in Chicago.
Michael Tyler, communications director for the Harris for President campaign, responded to Trump’s comments at the time: “Today’s tirade is simply a taste of the chaos and division that has been a hallmark of Trump’s MAGA rallies this entire campaign.”
Despite these divisive comments, Trump continues to claim that he is "the best president for the Black population since Abraham Lincoln."
