Apple Opens a New Live Music Hall in London
Apple is expanding its place in the music business with the opening of Apple Music Hall at Battersea Power Station on September 28. Built beneath the company's European headquarters, the London venue combines the atmosphere of an intimate concert with technology normally associated with large touring productions.
The hall accommodates 600 guests and centres on a reconfigurable stage measuring 38 feet across. Its audience area is surrounded by 48 speakers designed for Spatial Audio, allowing sound to reach seats from multiple directions. Even visitors at the rear will remain relatively close to the performers.
Artists can record concerts in Spatial Audio while producing multi-camera video and a broadcast-ready mix. The building is wired for at least 16 camera feeds and includes two permanent recording and mixing studios behind the stage. Selected performances are expected to be streamed internationally, extending the audience beyond the limited number of people inside.
Apple Music Radio is moving its London operation to new studios beside the performance space. Presenters based in the capital will broadcast from Battersea, bringing interviews, radio programming and live shows together at one site. Apple Music's global creative director Zane Lowe said, “Great music and memories will be made at Apple Music Hall.”
The project revives Apple's connection with London's concert scene nearly a decade after the iTunes Music Festival ended in 2017. That event became known for placing globally recognised performers in venues much smaller than their usual arenas. The new hall develops the same idea but adds permanent recording and broadcasting infrastructure.
Its location gives the project a distinctive visual identity. The restored Battersea Power Station combines industrial brickwork with Art Deco architecture, while the venue includes views across the River Thames and private facilities for performers.
Apple Music Hall plans to host established musicians alongside emerging talent. A complete opening programme has not been announced, but the venue gives London another technically advanced stage as smaller music spaces continue to face financial pressure.
