Carrot Top Hospitalised as Luxor Shows Are Cancelled
Carrot Top has cancelled two Las Vegas appearances after being taken to hospital, with the comedian now said to be recovering.
The entertainer, born Scott Thompson, was expected on stage at the Luxor on Friday and Saturday. Both performances were pulled following the medical emergency.
His representative, Jami Schlicher, confirmed that the 61-year-old is receiving care. She told TMZ: “His family and those closest to him are deeply grateful for the concern, prayers and respectfully ask for privacy.”
TMZ later reported, based on information from unnamed sources, that Thompson's hospital admission followed a suicide attempt. Schlicher has not confirmed that claim or disclosed what happened before he was taken for treatment.
MGM Resorts International, which operates the Luxor, said it was pleased to hear the comedian was recovering. A spokesperson also confirmed the weekend cancellations to 8 News, while declining to share further details.
The disruption comes during one of Las Vegas' longest-running comedy residencies. Carrot Top has performed at the Luxor since 2005, and additional dates remain advertised into next year.
His career has been built around energetic prop comedy and a highly recognisable stage persona. Gallagher has been cited as an influence on that style, while Thompson also made numerous television appearances during Jay Leno's late-night era.
The name Carrot Top itself came from a nickname given to Thompson by a swimming coach.
Concern quickly spread across social media after news of the hospitalisation emerged. Instagram users misterweeks, Chelsey and Koyote were among those posting messages of support and wishing the comedian a safe recovery.
