Clarkson Embraces Life
Jeremy Clarkson has spoken about how his outlook on life has changed following treatment for prostate cancer, saying he still wants to enjoy himself rather than follow an overly restrictive lifestyle.
The 66-year-old TV presenter revealed during the latest series of Clarkson's Farm that he had been diagnosed with aggressive prostate cancer. He is now in remission after receiving treatment.
As part of his recovery, Clarkson was advised to cut down on fatty foods, eat more protein and become more active. However, the former Top Gear host admitted he has no intention of giving up everything he enjoys.
Speaking to The Times, Clarkson said: “I haven’t worked my arse off for 40 years to have no joy in my old age. So, I’m having joy in my old age.”
He chose high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU), a minimally invasive procedure that uses high-frequency sound waves to heat and destroy targeted cancer cells.
Clarkson also explained that the illness was detected during one of his regular annual health checks. Doctors identified an abnormality and quickly discussed the treatment options available to him.
Although he described telling his children about the diagnosis and undergoing procedures such as having a catheter fitted as unpleasant, Clarkson said he was only unwell for a short period and is now doing much better.
His health update comes during another successful period for Clarkson's Farm. The Prime Video series won the reality docuseries prize at the National Television Awards on Tuesday, September 8. The programme had previously won Best Factual Entertainment Series at last year's awards.
The farming show has become one of Clarkson's biggest television successes outside motoring, with Kaleb Cooper and his partner Lisa Hogan among its best-known regular contributors.
Clarkson previously built his career alongside James May and Richard Hammond on Top Gear before the trio reunited for The Grand Tour.
