Brundle’s Grant Mix-Up

Martin Brundle found himself in an awkward live television moment after confusing Hugh Grant’s film role with a Netflix series appearance.

The exchange happened during the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Sunday (5 July). Around 600,000 spectators attended the Northamptonshire event, which also attracted a number of well-known guests.

As part of his Sky Sports grid walk, Brundle, 67, spoke with Lewis Capaldi, Phil Foden and Hannah Waddingham before approaching Grant, 65.

Grant was at the race with his sons, John, 13, and Felix, 11. The actor attended as a Ferrari guest and told Brundle: “I’m a big Ferrari fan.”

The interview became uncomfortable when Brundle brought up the second season of Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen. Grant then clarified that his connection was to the 2019 movie, not the Netflix adaptation.

In the film, Matthew McConaughey played a wealthy American businessman trying to sell his marijuana empire in Britain. Grant was part of a cast that also included Charlie Hunnam, Henry Golding and Michelle Dockery.

The title was later developed into a separate Netflix series, with Theo James and Kaya Scodelario in the leading roles. The show debuted in 2024.

Production on the second season was announced in August 2024 and came to an end in October 2025. James said in April that the new episodes were expected to reach Netflix this autumn, with the story moving into darker and less predictable territory.

Daniel Ings, Ray Winstone, Joely Richardson, Vinnie Jones, Giancarlo Esposito, Michael Vu and Pearce Quigley are all returning.

Hugh Bonneville is joining the next season, while Love Island presenter Maya Jama will appear in one of her earliest acting roles.
