Vinnie Jones has opened up about the grief he still carries after losing his wife Tanya and his mother, during an emotional episode of Vinnie Jones in the Country.
The former footballer and actor, known for his tough-screen image in Guy Ritchie films such as Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch, has been showing a more vulnerable side in the West Sussex-based series. The show follows Jones as he works on 2,000 acres of countryside, with a format often compared to Jeremy Clarkson’s Clarkson’s Farm.
In episode six of season three, Jones hosted a charity event at the farm for children affected by cancer and their siblings. The day led to a moving conversation with Jim, whose son Alfie died in an accident at the age of 24.
The exchange brought Jones back to his own losses. Tanya died in 2019 following cancer, and Jones admitted he once felt guilty about enjoying life again before accepting that she would have wanted him to keep going.
Speaking about Jim’s grief, Jones said it stirred painful memories and reminded him that loss is not something people simply move on from. He also reflected on his mother’s death, calling it a deeply personal blow that he has not fully processed.
The actor said he worries that he has not yet broken down over that loss, suggesting that keeping busy has become his way of coping. “It is the fear of crumbling that keeps me going, I think.”
The episode added a poignant layer to Jones’ countryside series, turning it from a rural renovation format into a more intimate portrait of a man using work, honesty and community to live with grief.
