Prenup Buzz Grows
Sen. Tim Kaine offered a lighthearted reaction to reports that Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are discussing a prenuptial agreement ahead of their expected summer wedding.
Speaking with TMZ’s Jacob Wasserman on Tuesday, May 19, the 68-year-old Virginia senator said he follows Swift mainly because of his Kansas City Chiefs fandom. Still, he suggested the reported prenup talks might be getting a bit too much attention before the ceremony.
TMZ reported earlier that Swift and Kelce, both 36, are considering where to file the agreement because state laws vary. Missouri, Kansas, Tennessee, New York and Rhode Island were reportedly among the options.
Asked whether prenup laws should be federalized, Kaine rejected the idea. Hillary Clinton’s 2016 running mate argued that states often benefit from maintaining different legal approaches rather than adopting a single national standard.
Kaine did not say where the couple should file, but he shared one personal hope: “I think they should live in Kansas City.”
The comment reflects his own ties to the area. Kaine moved there with his family at age 2 and spent much of his childhood nearby before later representing Virginia in the U.S. Senate, a role he has held since 2013.
Swift and Kelce are expected to marry this summer before he returns for his 14th NFL season with the Chiefs in the fall. Kelce previously said on ESPN’s The Pat McAfee Show that Swift’s work ethic helped motivate him to continue his career.
His return also keeps him alongside quarterback Patrick Mahomes and head coach Andy Reid as Kansas City prepares for another major season, while his relationship with Swift continues to command attention across both entertainment and sports media.
