Fans Back Kris Marshall
Beyond Paradise fans believe Kris Marshall could be well suited to a major role in HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter series.
The actor is best known as DI Humphrey Goodman, whom he first played in Death in Paradise in 2014. His exit from Saint Marie in 2017 disappointed BBC viewers, before the character returned in the Devon-set spin-off Beyond Paradise alongside Martha Lloyd, played by Sally Bretton.
Following the latest series finale, some fans have turned their attention to Marshall’s possible next move. According to the Mirror, Reddit users have suggested he would be an ideal choice to play Arthur Weasley in HBO’s new adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s books.
One fan wrote: “The right age, funny, definitely capable of that wide-eyed enthusiasm, but as his tone on Death in Paradise shows, more than capable of handling the more dramatic moments. Kris Marshall would be the perfect Mr Weasley.”
The idea drew support from other users, who praised Marshall’s warmth, comic timing and ability to handle emotional material. Arthur Weasley was previously played in the film franchise by Mark Williams.
No actor has yet been officially confirmed for the role. Kevin McKidd has also been linked to Arthur, although he has only said he is a devoted Harry Potter fan and would not rule out joining the series.
HBO’s Harry Potter TV series has confirmed Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. The ensemble also features John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape and Janet McTeer as Professor Minerva McGonagall.
Other announced cast members include Luke Thallon, Paul Whitehouse, Katherine Parkinson, Lox Pratt, Johnny Flynn, Bel Powley, Daniel Rigby and Bertie Carvel. The adaptation is overseen by showrunner Francesca Gardiner, while Mark Mylod is also involved in the series’ creative team.
