Paris Incident Claims Nadia Farès at 57
The death of Nadia Farès has been confirmed following a week-long coma caused by a medical emergency in Paris. The 57-year-old actress was found unconscious in a swimming pool at a private gym on 11 April in the 9th arrondissement and never regained consciousness. She passed away on Friday, 17 April.
Her daughters shared the news with AFP, stating: “It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of Nadia Fares this Friday,” and asked that their privacy be respected.
Farès, born in Morocco, gained recognition at the start of the 2000s through her role in Les Rivières pourpres (The Crimson Rivers). The film, directed by Mathieu Kassovitz and based on a novel by Jean-Christophe Grangé, featured Jean Reno and Vincent Cassel and became part of a widely exported wave of French thrillers.
Beyond France, her career included appearances in international productions such as War (2007), where she worked with Jason Statham and Jet Li, as well as the horror title Storm Warning. She also held a prominent role in Netflix’s Marseille, acting alongside Gérard Depardieu in the streaming platform’s first original French-language series between 2016 and 2018.
A new stage of her career was about to begin: Farès had been preparing an action-comedy scheduled to start filming in September, a project that would have seen her take on writing and directing duties for the first time.
Her health had been a recurring challenge. In earlier interviews, she spoke about undergoing surgery for a brain aneurysm in 2007, followed by several heart-related operations in subsequent years.
She leaves behind her daughters, including Cylia Chasman, whose father is American producer Steve Chasman. In a message shared online, Chasman described her mother as her “best friend” and a constant source of support. Her sister, Shana Farès, also acknowledged the loss, noting she would speak further at a later time.
