Miller Eyes TV Reunion
Ben Miller has hinted he could return to Death in Paradise as the BBC crime drama nears its 15th anniversary.
The 59-year-old was part of the original cast when the series launched in 2010, filming in Guadeloupe as Detective Inspector Richard Poole — the reserved London detective adjusting to life on the fictional island of Saint Marie. Created by Robert Thorogood, the show quickly became a ratings hit and an international export for the BBC.
Richard’s storyline ended abruptly in series two when he was murdered during a reunion with university friends. Despite that definitive exit, Miller has not ruled out another appearance.
“I’d love to come back, but my character gets murdered in the show,” he said, noting that flashbacks have provided a solution before. He previously reprised the role for the 100th episode in a scene with DS Camille Bordey, played by Sara Martins — a return that proved popular with fans.
Under executive producer Tony Jordan, the series has successfully refreshed its central detective over the years, with Kris Marshall and Ralf Little among those who followed. As the anniversary approaches, speculation about familiar faces resurfacing is growing.
Away from Saint Marie, Miller is also preparing for a television reunion of a different kind. He has recorded several editions of BBC quiz show Pointless, hosted by his longtime comedy partner Alexander Armstrong. The pair rose to fame as Armstrong and Miller before winning a BAFTA for The Armstrong Miller Show, which aired from 2007 to 2010.
Miller stepped into the co-host role associated with Richard Osman, filming the episodes last autumn.
The actor, whose latest children’s book Diary of a Wicked Witch is out now, is also supporting Read It Forward, organised by Bookshop.org. The campaign, alongside Joseph Coelho and Gill Sims, aims to inspire young readers. Funds raised will benefit BookTrust and Scottish BookTrust.
With a milestone year ahead and fresh projects on screen and on the page, Miller remains closely linked to both his past successes and new ventures.
