Holly Willoughby Pleads Guilty

Former ITV presenter Holly Willoughby has admitted causing a road traffic collision that left a scooter rider with a fractured neck and broken toe. The 44-year-old pleaded guilty in writing to the August 28 incident, in which prosecutors said she turned her Mini Cooper right without signalling, leaving the rider no time to avoid the crash.

Willoughby’s case appeared on the schedule at Lavender Hill Magistrates’ Court under her married surname, Baldwin, though she chose not to attend in person. Magistrates imposed a £2,444 financial penalty, which includes court costs, and issued six penalty points on her driving licence. She is required to settle the fine within 14 days. Officials noted that she cooperated fully from the moment of the collision and stayed at the scene to assist the injured motorist until emergency services arrived.

Her legal representative, Aisling Byrnes, emphasised Willoughby’s distress over the incident, telling the court, "She was horrified to find she had caused this accident and the injury, that really upset her." Byrnes added that Willoughby offered immediate help to the rider, including her phone and water, and made an early admission of guilt both at the scene and again when formally submitting her plea.

The development arrives during a period of speculation about Willoughby’s next move in television. She has recently been linked to the high-profile hosting vacancies on Strictly Come Dancing, following the announcement that longtime presenters Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman will step down later this year.

Willoughby, who left her long-running role on This Morning in 2023, continues to front Dancing On Ice and recently collaborated with Bear Grylls on the Netflix reality adventure series Celebrity Bear Hunt. With her future projects in the spotlight, the court case adds a dramatic and unexpected twist to the public narrative surrounding one of Britain’s most enduring presenters.
