Strike over wage dispute

It was learnt today that officeworkers will go on strike over a pay dispute.

It is worth noting that most of the members of the Communication Workers Union (CWU) voted to go on strike last month.

However, according to the union, the strike ended with a pay freeze for 2021, as well as an offer of a 2 per cent increase from 04/2022 and a one-off payment of £250.

Union officials stressed that the proposal was "exceptionally bad", especially as RPI inflation has reached 9 per cent.

"Despite the union's best efforts to avoid a strike, the post office has shown no interest in meaningful negotiations," said a CWU spokesman.

"The current proposal for a 2% wage increase over 2 years is nothing but an insult to these key workers who have provided exemplary services to this country during the pandemic."

According to the Communication Workers Union, the strike will affect crown post offices and small supplementary post offices.

A post office spokesperson said: "The CWU has notified us that they have ordered their members to go on strike on Tuesday, May 3."

"We want to reassure our customers that most of our 11500 branches are not affected by this decision and will remain open during business hours."
